HAPPY NEW YEAR 2021 – It Can Be!

Friends, what a year 2020 has been…one we will not forget!

At the stroke of midnight, wherever you are it will be Year 2021 and all of us who are here can shout loud and long – “Praise the LORD!! We made it over!”

Some 1.8 million-plus people of the 83 million COVID-19 virus cases world-wide didn’t survive leaving behind much sorrow, pain, and despair along with economic hardship.

The recent roll-out and availability of new vaccines may not bring the downturn we so desperately need  as a new COVID virus strain more virulent than the first has been discovered.

And then there’s the weakened economy and political and social unrest.

All things considered, world leaders are not offering hopeful predictions for 2021.

 

But what does this mean for a child of GOD?  

However significant the upheaval in the world around us the absolutes that govern the lives of a child of GOD remain unchanged. That is to say, the GOD we serve never changes and neither does His WORD and His promises.

JESUS CHRIST is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8

The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.” Isaiah 40:8

Whatever difficulties you may have faced in 2020 or lurking on the horizon in 2021, you have a firm and fixed foundation upon which you may continue to stand and build, God the Father and His WORD. So you keep on living like the unique individual that you are – as one chosen and beloved of GOD (1 Thessalonians 1:4.)

 

Obey the will of your Father and:

Cease needless worry being confident that He knows what you need and will provide for you according to His will.  Matthew 6:25-34

Study and meditate on His Word to increase your knowledge of and faith in both the Father and the Christ JESUS the SON. 2 Peter 3:18

Ask GOD for wisdom…do not make life decisions based on your own thoughts and feelings. Proverbs 3:5-6

Pray continually with thanksgiving to sustain joy. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Remain ever mindful that if you are in Christ JESUS all of the Father’s promises are yours 2 Corinthians 1:20

And because we all live in this human flesh you will stumble from time to time but be encouraged – “If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful, for he cannot deny who He is.” 2 Timothy 2:13

So, today, regardless of circumstances, you can praise GOD for being AWESOME with the confidence that He will be AWESOME again tomorrow!!

 

The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn His face toward you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26

 

Prayer and ThanksgivingAlmighty GOD and Father, we thank you for YOUR goodness and mercy throughout this year 2020. You forgave our sins, healed our diseases, filled our lives with things we didn’t deserve, renewed our strength, and crowned us with YOUR loving-kindness; and YOU will do it all again in the New Year, 2021. Thank YOU for choosing us to be YOURS in Christ JESUS, not because we are good, but because YOU are. And thank YOU for the Holy Spirit our Counselor. We have all that we need and we are so grateful. We pray in JESUS’ NAME. Amen.

Reflections: On Advent

The four Sundays and weeks preceding Christmas day is the Christian’s season of Advent – November 29 to December 24 this year 2020. During these weeks Christians worldwide focus on the importance of the Advent to the faith – the celebration of the birth of Christ 2000 years ago and the return of Christ at the Second Coming.

Advent ("adventus" in Latin) means “coming.” The English dictionary further defines the word advent as the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event – all aspects of which we can apply to the Christian Advent. The notable person being Christ, the “notable thing” the redemption from sin Christ brought to the world, and the “notable event” being His second coming when He will judge the world and reign in it forever.

 

Two Advents?  

Through the prophet, Isaiah, GOD foretold the coming of JESUS: 

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14

This fulfilled prophecy represents the first advent which we celebrate at Christmas. Jesus came then as Savior and Redeemer. He bore our sins at the cross so that those who believed in Him by faith are saved from the wrath of GOD. This too was foretold by the prophet Isaiah:

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, everyone, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:5-6.)

This too was fulfilled: They crucified two rebels with him, one on his right and one on his left. Those who passed by hurled insults at him... Mark 15

Now we are to live in anticipation of the second Advent when Jesus will return as Ruler and Judge.

Many Old Testament prophets hint at this triumphant return Zechariah 9:14-15.) But Jesus Himself speaks of it in the New Testament gospels.

Three parables in Matthew 25 foretell His return. Each with a different emphasis but a recurring theme - no one knows when He will return.  

In the parable of the "Ten Virgins," Jesus is represented as a ‘Bridegroom”; in the second parable, He is the “Master” of three servants whom He entrusts with “talents” that they are to put to work for Him. But in the third parable, He is more direct with His identity and the purpose for His return:

When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.” (verses 31-46)

Jesus is coming again to judge the world and take His place as Sovereign Ruler of the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21)  

The first Advent brought salvation for all who would believe – freedom from sin, soul rest, and peace that we cannot get from the world; all of which prepares us for the Second Advent.

If we accept Him fully as Savior, we will reign with Him forever when He comes as King.

Reflections: On GOD’s Immutability and You

The Westminster Shorter Catechism says, "God is a spirit, whose being, wisdom power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth are infinite, eternal, and unchangeable" and several Scriptures confirm this.  

I am the Lord, and I do not change… Malachi 3:6

If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny who He is. 2 Timothy 2:13

Likewise, all that GOD declares concerning His chosen people remain fixed.

 

This means that God will always:

Be with you

  • “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5-6
  • Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. Isaiah 41:10a


Love you

  • For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39
  • For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him. Psalm 103:11 


Forgive your sins

  • If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
  • As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:12

Listen to you

  • For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers. 1 Peter 3:12
  • I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears. Psalm 18:6
  • Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. Jeremiah 29:12


Answer your prayers

  • For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened. Luke 11:10
  • I love the Lord because He has heard My voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live. Psalm 116:1-2


Comfort you

  • Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation. 2 Corinthians 1:3
  • Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4


Provide for you

  • If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! Matthew 7:11
  • For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11
  • "I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” Jeremiah 32:26


Remember you

  • The LORD loves justice, and he won't ever desert his faithful people. He always protects them. Psalm 37:28
  • I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread. Psalm 37:25


Work on your behalf

  • When I cry out to You, then my enemies will turn back; This I know, because God is for me. Psalm 56:9
  • We know that God is always at work for the good of everyone who loves him. Romans 8:28a


Come through for you

  • Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Isaiah 41:10
  • And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 1 Peter: 5:10


Lead you with love, power, and wisdom

  • I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, and when you run, you will not stumble. Proverbs 4:11-12
  • It is God who arms me with strength, and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of deer,
  • And sets me on my high places. Psalm 18:32-33

 

Reward your obedience to Him

  • The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.” Psalm 91:14-16
  • Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

In all this and so much more, you may rest easy. When you wait on the Lord, you can be certain that the outcome will be perfect, as is His will for you.

Always!

 

But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

 

Prayer: Our Father in heaven, Immutable and Sovereign One, You are always faithful to Your promises as You cannot deny Yourself. You choose us, thank You. And now Your ears are always open to listen to us and Your eyes forever upon us to protect and defend us, Your children who worship You and do Your will. May Your Name forever be praised, In JESUS mighty Name. Amen!

Reflections: On Our (GOD’s) Money

The world’s richest man back in the 1900s and the first-ever American billionaire was John D. Rockefeller. Yet, his response to a reporter’s question, “How much money is enough?” was, “Just a little bit more.” 

The “just a little bit more” lifestyle philosophy is very much ingrained into society at large today. Whether they have a lot or just enough to get by, everyone wants more money, just to have more.

The Christian attitude towards money must be different; grounded in the Word of God and not the world’s norms.

Money on its own is necessary for our daily needs and the Bible agrees. What the Scriptures do say is that the LOVE of money is evil (1 Timothy 6: 10.)

Everything you are and own is a gift from GOD – including your money (…remember that the LORD your God gives you the strength to make a living. Deuteronomy 8:18 CEV.) But GOD means for you to use it for your joy and that of others, and not have it use you and control your life. When money becomes your god, it can wreak havoc in your life.

Even in challenging economic times, GOD’s will for you and your money remains fixed – He does not change one iota to accommodate your particular situation.

 

Reflect on these five points concerning your money:

Hoarding is unacceptable when you can help others in need. GOD wants you to share your resources, even sacrificially. Generosity pleases Him and He honors it.

  • And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Hebrews 13:16;
  • Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done. Proverbs 19:17
  • He who oppresses the poor to make more for himself or who gives to the rich will only come to poverty. Proverbs 22:16
  • One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly but comes to poverty.
  • A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. Proverbs 11:24-25
  • Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Romans 12:13

Fear of not having enough should not stop you from supporting your local church with at least a tithe. Trust God to do amazing things with the 90%.

  • The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23
  • Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops Proverbs 3:9
  • I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! Luke 12:22-24
  • He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Romans 8:32

Becoming a slave to debt is being led by your own desire and will and not the Lord’s. Have a plan to save to pay for your needs in full, and ask God to help you to perfect it according to His will, and to stick with it.

  • Do not be among those who give pledges, Among those who become guarantors for debts. If you have nothing with which to pay. Proverbs 22:26-27
  • Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. Romans 13:8
  • The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender. Proverbs 22:7
  • Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

Living just for today, spending all you get as you get it is unbiblical. GOD approves of you putting something aside for the future – this is not the same as hoarding but being wise and a good steward.

  • A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children. Proverbs 13:22
  • Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow. Proverbs 13:11
  • Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. Proverbs 6:6-8
  • The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty. Proverbs 21:5

Solomon was the wisest man that ever lived. GOD said so. He had much to share in the Book of Proverbs as well as Ecclesiastes about wise and righteous living, including the use of money.

We listen to and obey his words of wisdom because we trust in the GOD who imparted such wisdom unto him. For our good and GOD’s glory!

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. Ecclesiastes 12:13


Prayer and Thanksgiving: Our GOD and Father, forgive us for our lack of faith, remind us not to lean on our own understanding but to trust Your Sovereignty and divine plan for our lives, and Your faithfulness to perfect that plan. Our eyes are on You to WHOM all glory, dominion, and power belong forever and ever. In JESUS Name we pray. Amen.

Reflections: On GOD’s Mercy (Lamentations. 3:22)

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed. Lamentations 3:22

The assurance of eternal life with the Father in heaven belongs to every true believer in Jesus Christ. Yours only because of the abundant mercy by which GOD sacrificed His Son for you. (1 Peter 1:3.) None of us have to look too far back to be reminded that we could have been lost forever but for God’s mercy.

Yet over time, we can allow this divine characteristic of the Father to be overlooked amidst our daily doings and routines. We think little about the mercy that wakes us up every morning and gets us through each day; even less so when all is well in our world.

Do you know first of all that the thing we take so much for granted GOD does to us with great delight? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in mercy. Micah 7:8

Does it not give you great peace to know that His mercy is never in short supply and the source will never run dry?

For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.; the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting… Psalm 86:5; Psalm 103:17

And how does it make you feel to know that when you are most deserving of His wrath His mercy is of the gentlest and at its very finest?

Through the tender mercy of our God, with which the Dayspring from on high has visited us… To guide our feet into the way of peace.; God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions… Luke 1:78-79; Ephesians 2:4-5

What friend or family member, how every much loved can be your constant, faithful companion 24 x 7, expecting nothing in return? God’s mercy is.

Mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; Psalm 23:6

And most of all do you understand that GOD’s mercy is selective – that by His Sovereignty alone He chooses who gets it? 

Think about it!!

“I will…be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.” Exodus 33:19.

Aren’t these characteristics of GOD’s mercy worth daily contemplation so we can say along with the Psalmist, “I will sing aloud of Thy mercy” (59:16), and do just that?

Let us not forget, however, that GOD doesn’t need our approval of His actions, He isn’t any less GOD if we do or we don’t. GOD is complete in Himself; He needs nothing outside Himself. The joy He derives from His actions towards us are for His pleasure and glory alone.  

We, on the other hand, should be honored that we get to share in it.

After all, what is the chief end of man?

To glorify GOD, and to enjoy Him forever!


Prayer: Our Father in heaven, forgive us for our arrogance in taking any aspect of Your divinity for granted. “Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD and thou art exalted as head above all! May Your Name forever be praised, In Jesus Name.

Reflections: On Triumph Over Trouble (JAMES 1:2-8)

In his letter to believers of the New Testament early church James tells them to “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters whenever you face trials of many kinds.”

True confession – have you ever had days when hearing these words could tempt you to roll your eyes? I have! The very last thing you may consider doing in an agonizing situation is to be joyful! But, fellow believers, when you settle down within yourself, quiet your rebellious spirit and move on to the following verses you are reminded that it is for your own good that you regard hardship as righteous joy and not evil.

Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything (James 1:3-4) If after this you are still having trouble moving to a place of pure joy, verses 5-6 is there to help with that.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

Go to the throne of grace. Tell your Abba Father all that’s in your heart and ask Him to help you find your way from confusion, possibly rebellion, and panic to that place of pure joy. Ask earnestly and honestly, with tears running down your face, if it comes to that, but ask with confidence and a trusting, yielded heart.

Have the same mind as that of the three Hebrew boys in Daniel 3.  These young men faced being incinerated in a fiery furnace with perfect faith and confidence in the ability of their GOD to save them.  But they maintained also that if GOD chose not to save them, they would accept His plan for their lives, glorifying Him with their last smoke-filled breath, and do so with JOY.

Why? Because they believed in the wisdom and faithfulness of GOD to work even that horrific situation for their good (Romans 8:28) and He did so miraculously. They were thrown into the fiery furnace, but the Son of GOD got into the fire with them to protect them. They came out of it unharmed with not even the smell of some on their clothing. Not only were they triumphant in their testing before GOD but the entire Babylonian nation now knew that the GOD these young men served is real and He is Almighty.

No matter the turmoil that’s raging about you, your GOD and Father is the same reigning LORD and King today as He was during the life-time of the Hebrew boys. He’s with you too wherever you are in these raging and roiling currents called life.

If believers ever needed this reminder, it's NOW! 

 

Prayer: Mighty GOD and Father, these are scary times. But You are Omnipotent and nothing surprises You. Our trials, sorrows, and sickness are known to You and You hear the deep cries of our hearts, individually and as Nations. Please give us wisdom, strength, and courage to trust You and obey Your Word and Your will for our lives with pure joy. Your eyes are always on us. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on you to WHOM all glory, dominion, and power belong forever and ever. In JESUS Name we pray. Amen.

Reflections: On Kindness

Kindness is fast becoming extinct within cultures. The anonymity of social media has made it easy for individuals to insult and slander others that they don’t even know viciously and with impunity. All under the guise of “free speech.”

But this is not the believer’s world, right? Unfortunately, not so. Believers are responding much too often with unkind words and towards other believers. Again, using the anonymity of social media. This should never be.

Kindness, or lovingkindness, is one of GOD’s attributes. True believers – you who have salvation in Christ – are to grow and keep growing into the image of Christ and, like Him, reflect the Father’s nature. Be kind, even to those you disagree with or who regard you as the enemy. (Matthew 5:44).

Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. 1 Peter 3:9

Remember that you too were once undeserving of the Father’s lovingkindness. His choosing alone, not anything you did, has enabled you to share in His glory for all eternity.

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. Ephesians 1:5,7

GOD shows kindness to those who love Him as well as to those who are ungrateful and wicked. (Luke 6:35.)

Since you are His, you have His Sprit living in you and the  Spirit’s fruit working through you including kindness.

The foundation of all the Spiritual virtues are love.  Loving GOD first and then your neighbor as yourself. (Mark 12:30-31)

Believers are kind because they love GOD and His Son and aim to please Them and not themselves.

Love is kind. 1 Corinthians 13:4


Prayer and Thanksgiving: Our GOD and Father, Essence of lovingkindness, do not deal with us as we deserve but forgive us for our unkind behavior and help us to always bear with one another in love. Our eyes are on you to WHOM all glory, dominion, and power belong forever and ever. In JESUS Name we pray. Amen.

Reflections: You Are Your Thoughts (Prov 23:7)

A godly and productive lifestyle is the fruit of a healthy thought-life. Our thoughts drive our actions so it is vital that we pay very close attention to what we think about.

Scripture tells us that unhealthy thoughts are the product of an unhealthy heart – these two are inseparable – For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Proverbs 23:7 NKJV; Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life. (Proverbs 4: 23 NCV.)

The obvious remedy for a godly lifestyle would be – clean up your heart to change your thinking.


The WORD of GOD will guide you

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:1-2 NIV

Old habits are hard to break and change would need conscious, concentrated effort. Here are three activities that will make a difference:

  • Be willing to admit that your negative thinking is harming you mentally, spiritually, and most likely physically.
  • Focus daily on and practice re-training your heart and your brain to accept positive thoughts over negative;
  • Pray to GOD for wisdom and guidance to help you to have a mind that pleases Him!


What pleases GOD

That you obey His WORD as commanded in Philippians 4:8 – think about, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—anything (that) is excellent or praiseworthy.

By choosing to think like this you’re choosing faith in GOD over negativity and fear. And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.  

Give GOD total control of your heart and mind and you’re going to love the person you become.

Give me your heart, my son, and let your eyes observe my ways. Proverbs 23:26 (NET Bible)

GOD’s People Are Not Victims – Pt. 2

Believers are not exempt from adversity but when we, or our loved ones, come up against them we too often question GOD as to “why;” more so if we see our suffering as undeserved.

But here’s the thing, GOD knows the plan He has for your life, one that is unique to you, and so He is not surprised by your struggles and does not alter His plan which remains firm, whatever it is. In your good times and bad, you must trust GOD. …in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28) Keep loving and trusting Him. Endure in faith as you meditate on GOD’s Word and His promises. And, above all, don’t stop praying.

You are not a victim of your circumstances or a loser and you’re not abandoned or unloved by GOD because you are dealing with some hardship or sorrow.

English theologian Arthur W. Pink (1886 – 1952) wrote in his essay on the Supremacy of God, “Our lives are neither the product of blind fate nor the result of capricious chance, but every detail of them was ordained from all eternity and is now ordered by the living and reigning God. Not a hair of our heads can be touched without His permission.”

Yes, you can feel totally overwhelmed and confused by your challenges sometimes – tell that to GOD as well and He will give you peace. No need to live in doubt and anxiety! Your omniscient and omnipotent Creator and heavenly Father in His supremacy is well able to manage your life according to His divine plan and will. With wisdom, power, and love, GOD cares for and directs all things in His universe, including that which concerns you. What He wants from you is your unconditional belief and trust in Him to do that, and that you tell Him often with joy.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17

GOD has trusted you with adversity because He knows better than you do what you are capable of and what your future will look like afterward. He is walking with you all the way through to the end. Look for Him and you will find Him right there; He alone is your peace and strength. (Psalm 46)

You don’t have to understand it all in order to live through it well. As Moses explained it to the children of Israel, the secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law. Deuteronomy 29:29.

Proverbs 20:24 tells us that The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?  The New Living Translation (NLT) Bible commentary on this verse states, “We are often confused by the events around us. Some things we will never understand until years later when we look back and see how God was working…We shouldn’t worry if we do not understand everything as it happens

Child of God, your Father in Heaven does not want you to worry about things you do not understand, even if they hurt. He wants you to remember how much He loves you (John 3:16) and, because He does, He directs all of your life experiences for your good and not for harm (Jeremiah 29:11).

Just let GOD be GOD in your life and your end will be better than your beginning, and better than you could ever imagine!

"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him." 1 Corinthians 2:9

 

Prayer and Thanksgiving: Holy Father, thank You for being the all-wise One who never fails His own. Forgive us when we take our eyes of JESUS, the author and perfecter of our fate, so doubt and anxiety assails us and we go off-course. Give us the grace to endure. Father, remind us that those who trust in You will have new strength to run the race each and every day and never grow weary. To You, Father, be dominion and power forever and ever. GOD’s People Are Not Victims – Pt. 1


Rejoice in trials, endure trouble, GOD's plan is perfect
Do you agree that people, in general, have become more depraved, wicked, hostile, and dangerous? Do you see your colleagues as immoral, greedy, and self-serving? Are you longing for the “good ole days” when neighbors were trustworthy and considerate and children respectful of authority and their elders? Does history actually support this perception of the “good ole days?” Does the word of GOD?

There’s plenty in Scripture that contradicts any notion that human behavior has worsened over time and people are at greater risk today than they used to be.

Before you are half-way through the first book of Genesis in the Old Testament (OT) you come face to face with envy, greed, malice, adultery, betrayal, murder, and all kinds of evil and depravity. Here are a few examples of OT living:

Cain kills his brother out of jealousy and spite: Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let's go out to the field." While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. Genesis 4:1-16
Men of the city of Sodom attempt to rape angelic visitors to Lot’s house: all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.” Genesis 19:1-10

King David, the “man after GOD’s own heart,” knowingly takes another man’s wife and then orders his execution to hide his sin: Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her…Then she went back home. The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, “I am pregnant.”…David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah. In it, he wrote, “Put Uriah out in front where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die.” 2 Samuel 11:1-27

We arrive at the New Testament Gospels and we see John the Baptist imprisoned and beheaded for speaking out against a ruler’s adultery with his brother’s wife and the Gospel’s main attraction; our Lord Jesus Christ lied about, brutalized, tormented and ultimately executed on the cross following an unlawful and unfair night-time trial instigated by corrupt religious and political leaders whose actions are driven by malice, envy, arrogance, and pride.

Paul in his epistle to the Roman church summarizes man’s depravity and the reason for it:
Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind so that they do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. Romans 1:18-32

Paul’s description of evil humanity written in the year A.D. 54 accurately describes humanity today, A.D. 2020. Humanity is the same today as they were back in the book of Genesis and, except you are a child of GOD washed by the blood of Christ and being transformed daily by the Holy Spirit, Paul is telling us about some part of your life. 
If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. Romans 8:9b-10

Although society encourages a sense of victimhood at the hands of depraved humanity, the truth is that GOD’s wrath is upon all who have turned away from Him in that they are left to their own devices and whatever consequences come with it.

A child of God does not live a victimhood worldview. Are you exempt from suffering? Certainly not! Jesus clearly states that disciples Here on earth will have many trials and sorrows. John 16:33. The difference is GOD uses your suffering for your good and His glory (Romans 8:28.) His will is that you endure trials without losing faith in GOD. Through trials, you grow in His Kingdom. (James 1:2-4)

Seeing JESUS in Philippians 4:8-9


Spiritual revelations on the Scriptures
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me - put it into practice. And the GOD of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9 

I've read the above quoted Scripture verse hundreds of times but today the Holy Spirit opened up a new understanding of the text to me. I see for the very first time that the words the apostle Paul chose to describe the thoughts that ought to fill the minds of believers daily also aptly describe the person and attributes of JESUS CHRIST.

All Scripture teaches us about these specific attributes of CHRIST JESUS: –
  • True – faithful: We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 1 John 5:20; I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. Revelation 19:11
  • Noble – majestic, sovereign: Make a song to the Lord; for he has done noble things... Isaiah 12:5; O Lord, our Lord, …how noble (majestic) is your name in all the earth! Psalm 8:1,9 
  • Right – righteous, holy: “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land...” Jeremiah 23:5
  • Pure – undefiled, sinless: All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure… and in him there is no sin. 1 John 3:3-5; For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled…Hebrews 7:26
  • Lovely – beautiful, pleasing to the senses: One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek:.. to gaze on the beauty of the Lord…Psalm 27:4 ; In that day the Lord of hosts will be a crown of glory (beauty), and a diadem of beauty,…Isaiah 28:5; The Son is the radiance of God’s glory (beauty) and the exact representation of his being…Hebrews 1:3
  • Admirable – incomparable in goodness, loving-kindness: The Lord, the Lord,…slow to anger, abounding in love…Exodus 34:6; You are good, and what you do is good…Psalm 119:68; Nevertheless My loving-kindness will I not utterly take from him…Psalm 89:33; “…my love will know no bounds…Hosea 14:4
  • Praiseworthy – deserving of acclamation, honor: Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name… Isaiah 12:4; For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise. Psalm 96:4; You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor… Revelation 4:11; …at the name of Jesus every knee should bow (in honor) …Philippians 2:10
  • Excellent – exemplary, exceptional: Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things… Isaiah 12:5; we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice… Job 37:23; Thou art more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey. Psalm 76:4

Believers ought to meditate daily on the characteristics of GOD’s Son, our LORD and Savior, until with the help of His Holy Spirit our personalities merge and we are one. Such a transformation will bring us great reward in the here and now and for all eternity – the GOD of peace will be with us (Phil. 4:9).

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18

Reflections: Saved for Service


Christian service, serving others, love one another


For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10

Children of GOD are their Father’s hands and feet on earth, ambassadors for CHRIST the Son, the light of the world whose good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise (the) heavenly Father (Matthew 5:14-16.) Believers, the disciples of CHRIST, are called to works of mercy and compassion towards the lost as well as other believers. We are to respond to GOD’s commandment to love one another (John 13:34;) to serve as JESUS served – with love, compassion, generosity, wisdom and integrity of purpose (Matthew 25:35-40.) 

And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded. Matthew 10:42

Once we do our part GOD will do His. All for His Kingdom, and for His glory, and for all eternity.

True Repentance – Psalm 51


Confession, repentance, salvation, restoration to faith, GOD forgives
All through the Scriptures, from the Old Testament to Revelation, confession and repentance are given to GOD’s people as the only way to repair relationship with GOD and be truly forgiven of sin.
  • For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live! Ezekiel 18:32
  • Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. Proverbs 28:13
  • Produce fruit in keeping with repentance… Matthew 3:8-10
  • Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out… Acts 3:19
  • Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Revelation 3:19

According to renowned theologian John Calvin (1509 - 1564) repentance is “not merely the start of the Christian life (but) it is the Christian life.” Believers must grow and mature to a place of joy-giving habit of repentance.

The Bible talks about two types of repentance: a worldly sorrow, which is a check-the-box guilt-relieving kind offered up with an off-handed, “I’m sorry. Forgive me, but if you/he/she/they...”; and a deeply-felt regret of the spirit kind which acknowledges, names and takes full responsibility for wrong-doing. Only the latter pleases GOD as it results in a true heart-change. 

For the kind of sorrow GOD wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death. 2 Corinthians 7:10

John Bunyan (1628 - 1688), Christian Author/Preacher writes, The difference between true and false repentance lies in this: the man who truly repents cries out against his heart; but the other, as Eve, against the serpent, or something else.”

True repentance has several parts to it.

The best-known Bible model for Christian repentance is King David’s Psalm 51. David shows us what GOD needs form every truly repentant person:

Name and describe your sin Psalm 51:1-3

David does not hold back on admitting that he’s a wicked sinner who is guilty, corrupt, and evil in GOD’s sight. He describes his “iniquity” (immoral behavior,) “transgressions” (rebellion against GOD,) and “sin (all acts contrary to GOD’s law),” each term appropriately defining the wrongs David committed. David committed adultery that produced a child and murdered the woman’s husband to cover it all up (2 Samuel 11)

Appeal to GOD’s mercy Psalm 51:1

David’s first petition was for mercy. He appeals to the character of the GOD he has past experience with – One ready to show “compassion” and “lovingkindness” to His chosen people. We too have access to these same attributes of GOD through Christ JESUS. “…since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, JESUS the Son of GOD,Let us then approach GOD’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16

Own your stuff without excuses. Psalm 51:4

Sin has a ripple effect. Just like David’s, our sin affects multiple lives and just like David we must know that our greatest offense is against GOD Himself (Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight…) All sin is contrary to GOD’s law and though we seek forgiveness from the person/s we offend ultimately, we are nowhere without our Father’s direct forgiveness.

Invite JESUS in. Psalm 51:7

True repentance is never alone in the heart of any person. It always has a companion—a blessed companion. It is always accompanied by lively faith in our LORD and Savior JESUS CHRIST. Evangelical Anglican Bishop J. C. Ryle (1816 – 1900.) David asks GOD to “cleanse me with hyssop, and I shall be clean,” a reference to the Old Testament covenant blood sacrifice (Exodus 24:8.) We have been given a new covenant cleansing through JESUS’ blood (Hebrews 9:11-22) and we put our faith in its power to work on our behalf.

Allow GOD to heal your brokenness. Psalm 51:8

Be broken before GOD but do not remain in that state. JOY and PEACE are what GOD promised His people in CHRIST. David’s pain from sin is described as a physical ache – his very “bones have been crushed.” But he asks GOD to heal him and restore their relationship to a place of “joy and gladness,” the place where the children of GOD rightly live.

Yield to the Holy Spirit Psalm 51:10-12

Someone said to me recently with tears, “I feel like I’ve disappointed GOD.” You can only feel like this if the Holy Spirit is working in you and you respond in grief, aware that you’ve done what GOD hates. David recognizes the value of the Holy Spirit in bringing him to a brokenness over sin and does not want to lose that, “Do not…take your Holy Spirit from me.” Listening to GOD’s Spirit will both save you from yourself and give you peace.

End with Worship, commit to a testimony. Psalm 51:13-15

David completes his repentance appeal with joyous praise “Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise” and a vow to share GOD’s goodness to encourage others to repentance and restoration, “I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you.” We too must share our testimony of GOD’s restoring mercy. It’s the gospel, GOD’s grace and goodness, that brings people to repentance, leading to salvation (Romans 2:4.)

Conclusion

Sin is a heavy burden for any child of GOD to carry, if for no other reason than it robs us of intimacy with our Father. But that relationship is restored easily by returning to Him with a broken and contrite heart.

King David threw himself on the mercy of his GOD with genuine appeals for forgiveness, a renewed heart and a joyful spirit.

That same GOD is also our Father, compassionate and merciful. He will forgive us too from the bondage of sin unto obedience that frees us to enjoy Him fully again.


Prayer and Thanksgiving: Holy GOD and Father, we thank You that Your loving kindness, mercy and compassion know no measure. We confess all sin of commission and omission, that we have grieved Your Holy Spirit and we ask you to forgive us and cleanse us by the blood of Your Son, JESUS Christ. Restore us and make us to know your joy once again and increase our desire to love and obey You more so that we sin against You less. Be our Rock and our salvation. To you, Father, be dominion and power for ever and ever. In JESUS name we ask this. Amen.

Reflections: We Were All Prodigals Once


"So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him."
LUKE 15:20 (NIV)


Dear friend, your present suffering is built on the sin of vanity and pride, and need not continue. 

You have an amazing, forgiving and perfect Father waiting to welcome you back to where you belong and remove all stain of sin from you. Why delay? Peace, joy, healing and true love and joy (not a temporary happiness) can be yours...a whole new and abundant life!! 

And in case you think no one cares, know that the angelic hosts will celebrate you in heaven if you return, while GOD has prepared an earthly Family whose members have been there, done that, and are ready to receive and support you with understanding and loving care!!

Go to your Father! 

Today can be the day of your salvation! Today can be your day of healing!

Why We Never Give Up


Hope in GOD's Promises, Hope in Christ, Hope in the WORD
The world is just learning to cope with the ravages of the COVID-19 tsunami when we are confronted with another plague, of a different color, so to speak. Systemic racism compounded by unrestrained police brutality. One such very public and tragic incident recently unleashed a volcanic rage that for decades lay dormant in the souls of many. Across the globe, thousands took to the streets to express their anger and frustration and while many protested peacefully, rioting, looting, burning and other forms of vandalism were also wide-spread. Shades of Armageddon!

One commentator describes these events coming one upon another as a “thin” time that’s taking people to near breaking point, triggering negative behaviors and magnifying insecurities, or, alternately to a place of deeper sadness and pessimism.

Christians too are admitting to despair. Some say that with church buildings on “temporary” lock-down it makes it harder to cope. Virtual worship is insufficient for their spiritual needs, they miss the personal contact and touch that help reassure them in a crisis – this more so for singles. While these are our reality, fellow believer and child of GOD, could we refocus your attention for a minute and look again at what’s really true for you?
  • Despite all the tragedy, chaos and dysfunction, that which makes you unique in and to the rest of the world has not and cannot be changed nor compromised.
  • And the life of a child of GOD cannot be one of despair and hopelessness. It’s the reverse!

This is your truth, whether the church doors are open or not! 

Here’s why!

You may live in this world but you’re not of the world. John 17:15-16.

I’m not asking You to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. They do not belong to this world any more than I do. John 17:15-16

Hardships and trials may be your current reality but your true enemy here is Satan, whose only goal on earth is to convince you of hopelessness and destroy your peace as a child of GOD. He will deceive you into thinking of yourself as other than you are (John 10:10; 1 Peter 5:8;) to make you forget that you are a child of hope, living unto the GOD of HOPE who came to earth in the person of JESUS CHRIST for your joy!

JESUS, the WORD who became human and made his home among us with unfailing love and faithfulness, prayed for you! John 1:14
“I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in Me through their message…” John 17:20

Believer, you must fight and not give in and you can do it with a new mindset. 

Daily search the Scriptures to remind yourself of the truths and promises of GOD that are yours. See again how your heavenly planned it before the beginning of time. From the prophetic promise through the finished work of the gospels and on through the Epistles. The WORD will renew your mind and revive your joy.

These and so much more are your gift of hope and encouragement Romans 15:4:
For a child is born to us, a Son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end. Isaiah 9:6-7

But He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on Him the sins of us all. Isaiah 53

For this is how GOD loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. GOD sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.  John 3: 16-17

“Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the LORD—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!” Luke 2:10-11
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many. Matthew 20:28

Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in Me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with Me where I am. John 14:1-3 

(JESUS) gave up his divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form, He humbled himself in obedience to GOD and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Philippians 6:7-8

But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of GOD. John 1:12

See how very much our Father loves us, for He calls us His children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are GOD’s children because they don’t know Him. 1 John 3:1

GOD’s tidings of “great JOY” that we celebrate at Christmas is for every day in the finished work of CHRIST for all who believe – GOD’s children. 

We all need to be reminded – again and again and again. Our faith is bolstered and we are renewed by the constant repetition by our own study and meditation as well as by hearing from others. So as much as you can strengthen your brother or sister. (So, faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ. Romans 10:17).

The Christian life is about reminding ourselves constantly of who GOD is, what GOD has promised, and what GOD has done. We need to be reminded because under the difficulties and hardness of life we so easily forget and we surrender to our natural tendency to listen to the devil’s lies about what we can’t or shouldn’t have to endure.

We must remember instead that our power is linked to CHRIST’s who could and did endure for us.

Ours is a life of hope and Joy, every day!

That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18


Prayer and Thanksgiving:  Abba Father, we thank you for Your WORD that reminds us that Your promises are good and everlasting for all who are Yours and for the finished work of CHRIST Jesus, our Redeemer, Intercessor and LORD. Thank You for His Power that is at work in us so we can endure all things with JOY! We exalt Him as our Wonderful Counselor, our Mighty GOD, our Everlasting Father, and our Prince of Peace and You our unchanging GOD who is ever gracious to Your people. In all this we rejoice and we pray in JESUS’ NAME. Amen!
